John "Johnny" Lewis Williams, a winger, joined Cardiff from Newport in 1903 and was captain in 1909/10. He gained 17 caps for Wales between 1906 and 1911 and was often top try scorer for his club side. Williams was at the Somme and was injured in the battle of Mametz Wood on July 7th; he died of his injuries five days later.
