Info:
Back Row: Ted Spillane, Bill Jones, Gwyn Evans, Les Mansfield, Bill Tamplin, Roy Roberts, Elvet Jones, Cliff Davies, Duncan Brown, Unknown.
Middle Row: A. T. Thomas, Stan Bowes, Douglas Jones, Jack Matthews, Haydn Tanner (Capt.), Danny Davies, Bleddyn Williams, Billy Cleaver, Frank Trott, J. Thomas.
Front Row: Maldwyn James, Les Williams.
Player records show this team played five matches together at the Cardiff Arms Park in 1947/48.
Though it is complicated by the fact their are 16 players. Stan Bowes played in one of the five matches (v. Plymouth Albion) and Les Mansfield in the other four.
The matches are -
27th September 1947 v Australia - This is unlikely, as there are team photos of this game that are very different.
4th October 1947 v Newport
18th October 1947 v Swansea
22ne November 1947 v London Welsh
14th February 1948 v Plymouth Albion - The reserves listed for this match were H. Thomas and Billy Douglas, so it would be strange for Mansfield to be in photo.
Therefore we believe it's either the Newport, Swansea or London Irish match, and perhaps Bowes was one of the TJ's and took his blazer off for the photo.
