The 1951 British Isles Touring Team were the first to be nicknamed “The Lions”
This match was played, at Cardiff Arms Park, to celebrate Cardiff’s 75th Anniversary. Four “Lions” from the tour played for Cardiff that day, Bleddyn Williams, Jack Matthews, Rex Willis and Cliff Davies. The fifth Cardiff Lion, Billy Cleaver, played for the touring team.
