Ian played for Bridgend from 1971 until he retired in 1979 and holds the points scoring record for the Brewery Field club. On the international stage Ian played for Wales B against France B in 1973 and was a member of the Welsh squad during the 1972/73 season, touring Canada with Wales in June 1973 and being a reserve for the games against New Zealand and throughout the five nations of 1973. Also during the 1972/73 season he was in the Welsh team for the inaugural World 7s competition at Murrayfield. After retiring from playing Ian spent some time between 1981 and 1986 coaching in South Africa for the Anglo American Corporation. His Brother Gareth played for Cardiff Athletic and appeared in one game for the senior side.
