James Ira Thomas "Taffy" Jones was 'one of the RAF's most decorated flying aces' during the Great War. He won several awards and decorations; being awarded the Military Cross, the Distinguished Flying Cross and bar and the Distinguished Service Order. Jones recorded 37 victories in just 3 months whilst flying the Royal Aircraft Factory S.E.5a during the First World War-including a spell of six in eleven days. Jones was recommissioned after the outbreak of the Second World War, and flew briefly during the Battle of Britain. Jones played Rugby for the RAF on four occasions, at scrum-half v Royal Navy (3-12) in 1920 and at fly-half v Army (26-3) in 1921, v Royal Navy (6-9) and v Army (8-23) in 1922.
